Description: About the position

The section for artificial intelligence and applied technology at Kripos works to develop new solutions and methods for use in the fight against crime. The section is interdisciplinary and works to establish new capabilities within investigation and intelligence, as well as to make these areas more efficient through the use of artificial intelligence. In addition, the section collaborates closely with other national and international actors on KI. 

As an AI developer, you will actively assist in cases and contribute to new solutions and methods within investigation and intelligence, as well as work long-term with the AI ​​platform and services. The section is also involved in various academic research projects and there will be an opportunity to contribute to these. The section is located at the Section for Electronic Tracks (E-tracks), which is one of five sections in the National Cybercrime Center (NC3) department. The section's main purpose is to develop new methods and tools to secure, read, interpret and analyze electronic traces and evidence to assist and support professional environments and investigations. The section is among Europe's leaders in the field and participates in several international method development projects and collaboration forums. 

In the role of AI developer, you will contribute to the Police's important social mission, while at the same time working at the forefront of technological development. You will work in an interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the design, development and quality assurance of sophisticated AI-based solutions to be used in investigation and intelligence. This requires solid analytical and technical skills and a good ability to work in a large and complex organisation, with high demands for compliance. You will also contribute to the coordination of the section's work towards machine learning and artificial intelligence across Kripos, the agency and with other national and international partners.

We are looking for you who have solid experience in the development of AI solutions and who are able to see solutions where others see problems. You must be both structured and analytical, and at the same time have a creative approach to problem solving. You are able to work independently at a fast pace and new challenges, at the same time you must be a team player and thrive in collaboration. It is assumed that you have a good understanding of the role. 

Personal suitability, results from education and motivation for the field will be emphasized. Kripos follows the development of crime and it is therefore a prerequisite that you are flexible with regard to areas of responsibility, work tasks and organisation.

As an employee of Kripos there is the possibility of a home office, but as an emergency organisation, there is an expectation of physical presence several days a week. Kripos' working language is Norwegian, and it is a prerequisite that the person employed is fluent in Norwegian, both orally and in writing. Some travel must be expected.


Work tasks
  • develop techniques, methods and capabilities for artificial intelligence
  • develop applications and services to make artificial intelligence available
  • analyze data and create solutions that respond to information needs in criminal proceedings
  • further development and operation of existing solutions
  • discover and identify AI needs of other professionals at Kripos
  • be responsible for training in AI and the capabilities we develop
  • contribute to research projects

Qualifications

You must have this to be qualified:

  • relevant education from a university or college at minimum master's level, within technical and natural sciences
  • at least 3 years' experience as a developer or equivalent
  • experience with development and implementation of AI solutions. Including generative AI and AI agents, large language models, prompt engineering and RAG
  • experience with analysis and processing of large amounts of data
  • good programming skills, preferably in Python
  • very good language skills in Norwegian and English

It is also desirable to have:

  • experience with container technology and microservices
  • experience with AI-based sound, image and video processing
  • experience with academic research

You must have a clean character and be fit for duty in order to be employed in the police. An exhaustive and extended police certificate must be obtained and presented before any employment. When assessing whether you are suitable for service in the police, information about you may be obtained from the police's registers. The person employed in the position must satisfy the requirements for SECRET security clearance.

About the employer:

Kripos is the police's national competence center in the fight against organized and other serious crime. We provide assistance to the police districts and have specialist expertise in areas such as tactical investigation, forensics, electronic traces, special investigative methods, criminal intelligence and analysis. We are also responsible for processing the police's central registers and the national contact point for international police cooperation. The national forensic laboratory is also located at Kripos.
