The Directorate for Children, Youth and Families (Bufdir) is a professional directorate under the Ministry of Children and Families. Bufdir, department for solution development, is now looking for a skilled senior data engineer in a permanent 100% position.

The position involves building and further developing solutions for data warehouses and data pipelines that support reporting and decision support throughout the organization. You will work closely with the professional environment to make data available in a safe and structured way, with particular emphasis on the proper handling of sensitive data related to children, young people and families.

Job tasks

As a senior data engineer, you will have a central role in the development, management and further development of our data platform. You will work closely with both professional environments and product teams to ensure that data is available, reliable and lays the foundation for good insights and decisions.

Your most important tasks will be to:

• Design, develop and optimize databases and data models in SQL Server
• Ensure good structure, performance and quality in our data solutions
• Develop, operate and further develop integrations and data pipelines in Azure Data Factory
• Troubleshoot and improve existing data flows and integration solutions
• Transform, model and quality-assure data using dbt
• Contribute to the establishment and further development of good practices for data quality and data management
• Prepare and structure data for analysis and reporting purposes, including in Power BI
• Participate in development work related to DevOps, version control and CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps and Git
• Work closely with product teams, developers, analysts and other professional resources to find good data-driven solutions
• Actively participate in agile product development through working methods such as Scrum and Kanban
• Contribute to continuous improvement of work processes, tools and technical solutions

What background do you have?

In this position you must have:

• Bachelor in computer science, computer technology, system development or correspondingly. Major with an emphasis on data/databases (e.g. computer engineering, software engineering)
• Good knowledge of and practical experience with SQL and relational databases, especially SQL Server
• 5 years of relevant experience
• Good language skills in Norwegian and English, both oral and written. The working language in Bufdir is Norwegian

It is an advantage if you also have:

• Experience with integration tools, e.g. Azure Data Factory
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud-based data infrastructure
• Experience with version control (Git)
• Knowledge of DevOps/CI-CD (e.g. Azure DevOps)
• Experience or knowledge of dbt
• Knowledge of data modeling/Power BI
• Experience of Python or other relevant language
• Experience with agile methodology (Scrum/Kanban)
• Knowledge of Agile working methodology and Scrum

• The position is placed in the state salary regulations in position code 1364 senior adviser, NOK 800,000 - 900,000 per year. 
• Salary is assessed according to education and experience. 
• Membership in the State pension fund with good loan, pension and insurance schemes (http://spk.no). A 2% pension contribution is deducted from the salary.

About the employer:

The Directorate for Children, Youth and Families (Bufdir) is a state administrative body under the Ministry of Children and Families (BFD).

Our main tasks lie in the areas of upbringing, child protection, family protection, adoption, equality and non-discrimination, as well as violence and abuse in close relationships.

Bufdir manages Bufetat, which is responsible for state child and family welfare. Following a change in the law on 1 January 2014, the Directorate became the professional body for all child protection, i.e. both municipal and state.

On behalf of the ministry, we deal with cases related to the Child Protection Act, the Adoption Act, the Children's Act, the Marriage Act and fair compensation. Legal certainty, legitimacy, equal treatment, safeguarding diversity and high-quality case management are central to the directorate.

The directorate is a professional advisor to the ministry and a body of expertise in our areas, both for the sector, other public bodies and the general public. An important function is to acquire and disseminate solid knowledge within our areas of responsibility.

Bufdir is the national office for the implementation of the EU program Active Youth (now Erasmus+). We also manage grant schemes on behalf of the ministry.
