The position is a fixed-term position of three years, with the possibility of a fourth year of career-promoting work (for example, teaching assignments at the institute). Planned start is January/February 2027, and the position is funded by the University of Bergen.
About the project/tasks:- The position is connected to the research project Technology-Enhanced Cognitive Resilience Toolkit for Disinformation Detection, Vulnerability Profiling, and Digital User Empowerment (infoSHIELD), a five-year project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
- infoSHIELD investigates psychological vulnerability for misinformation and disinformation linked to new technologies, with particular attention to AI-generated content.
- The project combines psychological mapping, behavioral experiments and psychophysiological methods to investigate the cognitive and affective processes involved when evaluating misleading information.
- The scholarship holder will plan and carry out experimental studies using behavioral and psychophysiological methods, including EEG, skin conductance or similar measurements.
- The tasks include recruitment of participants, data collection, pre-processing of data, statistical analyses, interpretation of results and dissemination of research.
- The scholarship holder will prepare scientific publications, scientific reports and complete a doctoral thesis within the framework of infoSHIELD.
- The scholarship holder will collaborate with the project's interdisciplinary and international research partners and participate in relevant project meetings and research activities.
- City of work is Bergen. Regular physical attendance is necessary for laboratory work, testing of participants and collaboration with the local research group.
- The scholarship holder should have an international perspective and contribute to establishing and maintaining scientific collaborations with international research partners. This includes shorter stays at the laboratories of the project partners and possibly longer research stays.
Qualifications and characteristics:You must:
- have a master's degree or equivalent in psychology, human-machine interaction, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience or another relevant subject area by the application deadline
- normally have achieved a grade equivalent to B or better Master's thesis according to the Norwegian grading scale. Applicants who do not meet this requirement may still be considered if this is permitted by the admissions rules at the faculty, and if they can document special scientific achievement or research potential through peer-reviewed publications, conference contributions, patents or relevant research experience
- meet the requirements for admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Bergen
- have relevant training or experience in quantitative research methods, experimental design and statistical analysis
- be able to document strong scientific motivation and interest in human-AI interaction, cognitive psychology or related topics
- be able to work independently and systematically, while contributing well to collaborative research
- have very good skills in written and spoken English
- have good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
- be willing to move to Bergen and have regular physical presence for laboratory work and project activities, if you do not live in the Bergen area
- be willing to carry out research stays with project partners abroad
It is an advantage if you:
- have relevant experience in human-machine interaction, human-AI interaction, research on misinformation or experimental psychology through master's thesis, research position, practice or work outside academia
- have experience in planning and carrying out laboratory-based or web-based behavioral experiments
- have experience with the collection or analysis of psychophysiological data, such as EEG data or skin conductance data
- have programming and analysis skills in software such as R, Python or MATLAB
- have experience with experimental software such as PsychoPy, Psychtoolbox or PsyToolkit
- have experience in the development or validation of psychological measurement instruments
- have benefit open and reproducible research practices, including pre-registration, transparent data handling or reproducible analysis processes
- have contributed to scientific publications, conference publications or research presentations
- have experience from interdisciplinary or international research environments
Personal qualities, scientific motivation and research potential will be given great weight in the assessment.
The University of Bergen is subject to the regulations for export control. The regulations will be used as a basis for processing the applications. If the university has not received an assessment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 6-12 weeks of the application for an export licence, any offer of appointment will be withdrawn.

The appointment period is three years, with the possibility of a fourth year which includes 25% career-promoting work (for example, teaching assignments at the department) distributed over the appointment period. The fourth year depends on your qualifications and the teaching needs at the department, and is decided by the head of department upon appointment. You cannot previously have been appointed for a one-year period as a research fellow at the University of Bergen.
About the PhD education
As a research fellow, you must complete the PhD program at the Faculty of Psychology within a time frame of 3 years. When assessing your qualifications for the position, you will also be considered for admission to the PhD programme.
